A Curfew of Curlews!

Monday, 11th May 2015

Good Afternoon

Sometimes it’s good to repeat a walk – hopefully you’ll remember the route so you don’t have your nose stuck in a book or be scouring a map most of the time.  The weather will be different, flowers will have bloomed, birds flown in – it’s altogether more relaxing.

Today we went back to Flushing and walked along the river.  It was warm and sunny and delightfully peaceful. Continue reading

The Way Through the Woods…

Monday, 4th May 2015 (Day 1, week 18)

Aiming to walk 1000 miles in a year

Total so far: 331.7 miles (4.6 miles this week)

Hello

Despite the grey clouds and threatening rain I decided to venture up to the woods to see how the bluebells were coming along.  I was not disappointed!  It was astonishing to see the carpet of vivid blue amongst the trees – so difficult to capture on camera, but there are lots of photos here anyway!   Continue reading

Return to Gillan Harbour..

Sunday, 3rd May 2015 (Day 7, week 17)

Aiming to walk 1000 miles in a year

Total so far: 327.1 miles (10.8 this week)

Hello

It’s been a struggle to get out this week, a couple of days at work seems to have left me tired and lethargic.  I know that a walk would make me feel better but the weather has been uninspiring and it seems easier to stay at home and sew!

Having decided against a planned walk yesterday after waking up to a steady downpour, today we ventured out anyway in thick fog and heavy drizzle, and we’re glad we did.  The rain and fog faded away as we neared our starting point and the sun even managed to struggle through the clouds for part of the way. Porth Reservoir Walk

Wednesday, 29th April 2015 (Day 3, week 17)

Aiming to walk 1000 miles in a year

Total so far: 322.1 miles (5.8 miles this week)

Hello

We didn’t know there was a reservoir near Newquay until we found this walk (iWalkCornwall.co.uk).

A fishing competition was in progress so there were loads of guys and girls around the lake preparing to spend the day fiddling with maggots and things.  Who knew they needed so much kit to fish with?  They had their own wheel barrows to get their stuff from the car to the lakeside and then they had tents and chairs and picnic stuff and some even had special seats which actually went into the water so that when they had their waders on they could sit down in the water without getting wet!  How cool is that!! And then of course they had enormous fishing rods and yards and yards of fishing line. I’ll tell you it’s a complicated business this fishing! Continue reading

A Quick Garden Ramble at Trewidden

Sunday 26th April 2015 (Day 7, week 16)

Aiming to walk 1000 miles in a year

Total so far 316.3 miles (10.9 miles this week)

Hello

As you can see, I’m getting a bit behind with the total milage which should be up to 320 miles for week 16.  So – I’ve had a lazy week.  Well, not really.  I had to go back to work this week which reduces the time left for walking.  Never mind, I’m hatching a plan to improve things.

Meanwhile, today we had a quick walk around Trewidden Gardens, which is just outside of Penzance.  We hadn’t visited before and were mighty impressed with their Spring displays of camellia and rhododendron not to mention the chocolate cake!

Beaten by bovinophobia!

Friday, 17th April 2015 (Day 5, week 15)

Aiming for 1000 miles in a year

300.1 miles walked so far – 14.9 miles this week

Hello

Bovinophobia – fear of cows has proved my downfall today!  I know, I said I’d managed to overcome it mostly, but today it reared it’s ugly head and we had to beat a hasty retreat from a field of threatening bovines, putting an early end to a sadly uninspiring ramble around Constantine.

We were using a little book called Five Walks around Constantine which contains lots of local information but unfortunately its all mixed in with the directions, making it very difficult to follow, We spent more time trying to work out where we were, than looking at where we were going – at least Mr RR did; I just wasted time taking lots of photos!

So….another book bites the dust and we consoled ourselves with a cream tea – yum!
