Penrose Top Path

Thursday, 28th May 2015

Hello

I took myself off for a walk around the top path of Penrose Estate on Thursday.  The sun was sort of shining in between the clouds, and sometimes the sky was even quite blue –  but it was very windy. Continue reading

Pretty at Penrose

Friday 22nd May, 2015

Hi,

I took myself off for a stroll around Penrose today, I haven’t been for a while.  It’s all very pretty with the bluebells still in flower alongside red campion, cow parsley, buttercups and daisies.  The foxgloves are just coming into flower now as well.

I’m sure I heard a cuckoo!  I had a listen on utube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1WcxRaMmIM) and it’s definitely the same sound.  I couldn’t see him anywhere, though he sounded quite close.  Then, in the distance I heard an owl twitwooing – something must have woken him from his sleep. The Keeper of the Kiddlywink!

Tuesday, 19th May 2015

Hello

I’ve been reading my Medieval Flower Book by Celia Fisher which discusses how flower illustration was used in medieval herbals and manuscripts, and gives masses of interesting information about the uses – and abuses of flowers – in those days. It’s an informative history of flowers as they are portrayed in medieval art  and beautifully illustrated too!

Battle for the skies…

Friday, 15th May 2015

Hello

We went back to Predannack today and walked along the cliffs to Kynance Cove, returning across Lower Predannack Downs.  Last month when we did this walk we were enveloped in thick fog.  Today, we enjoyed bright sunshine for most of the time and could see for miles out to sea and across the heathland. A quick ramble around Perranuthnoe

Wednesday, 6th May 2015 (Day 3, week 18)

Aiming for 1000 miles in a year (and getting a bit behind!!)

Total so far: 334.6 miles (7.5 miles this week)

Hello

This is a walk we did last Wednesday – I’ve been a bit slow in getting it written up! Fierce winds kept us from high cliffs, so for a quick walk we popped down to Perranuthnoe and scurried around our favourite route. For a short walk, we saw a surprising amount of birdlife.

The Way Through the Woods…

Monday, 4th May 2015 (Day 1, week 18)

Aiming to walk 1000 miles in a year

Total so far: 331.7 miles (4.6 miles this week)

Hello

Despite the grey clouds and threatening rain I decided to venture up to the woods to see how the bluebells were coming along.  I was not disappointed!  It was astonishing to see the carpet of vivid blue amongst the trees – so difficult to capture on camera, but there are lots of photos here anyway!   Continue reading

Return to Gillan Harbour..

Sunday, 3rd May 2015 (Day 7, week 17)

Aiming to walk 1000 miles in a year

Total so far: 327.1 miles (10.8 this week)

Hello

It’s been a struggle to get out this week, a couple of days at work seems to have left me tired and lethargic.  I know that a walk would make me feel better but the weather has been uninspiring and it seems easier to stay at home and sew!

Having decided against a planned walk yesterday after waking up to a steady downpour, today we ventured out anyway in thick fog and heavy drizzle, and we’re glad we did.  The rain and fog faded away as we neared our starting point and the sun even managed to struggle through the clouds for part of the way. Hello – from not so sunny Porthleven where the Food Festival is in full swing!

Staying around Porthleven today, I wanted to see how the bluebell woods in Penrose were coming on so we did a quick walk through the estate before heading back to the Festival.DSCF1098
