Queen Elizabeth Forest Park

Friday 4th September 2015

Hello

After nearly a week of driving around Perthshire, Fife and The Scottish Borders we’ve finally found the one!  So….fingers crossed all will go well and I’ll be blogging from Scotland by Christmas!

It’s been exhausting and stressful and we were desperately in need of a good walk by Friday. We started with a visit to the Lodge Forest Visitor Centre (scotland.forestry.gov.uk/forest-parks/queen-elizabeth-forest-park/the-lodge-forest-visitor-centre ) for an early lunch and then made our way along one of their clearly marked trails to the Red Squirrel Hide before driving the short distance to Loch Ard for a walk with views.

Halzephron Cliffs, Church Cove and Poldhu

Thursday, 27th August 2015

Hello

Goodness me!  I’m so far behind with these blogs!  Usually, as you know, I write them up on the same day as the walk, but we had a quick ramble the day before driving up to Scotland (for a wee bit of exercise before spending a week sat in the car) and then I got so busy checking out house viewing timings and home survey reports that I hardly had time to pack my jimjams let alone write a blog!   Continue reading

Around the Lizard Backwards….

Sunday, 23rd August 2015

Hello

We’ve been a bit busy recently but after several days of dreary, rainy weather, a little bit of blue sky encouraged us to venture out today.  Mr RR suggested walking backwards around The Lizard!  On noticing my incredibly dubious expression and hearing my cry of dismay…..after all I’m not very good at staying upright walking forwards, heaven knows what the outcome would be if I walked backwards…..he hastens to clarify.  Instead of starting from Lizard Point and walking towards Church Cove as we usually do, we should go the other way and walk from Church Cove back towards The Lizard. Trebah Gardens

Sunday 16th August 2015

Hello

We’ve been to Trebah…..lots of other people were there too, it being August and all that.  We had a walk down to the beach, a cup of tea, and then a walk back up to the cafe for lunch and then another walk before sitting down and enjoying the views for a while.

Here are some pictures of my favourite things. Continue reading

Sloshing around Predannack

Friday, 15th August 2015

Hello

Yesterday we went back to Predannack and across walked to Kynance Cove which has become a favourite circular walk for us.  After torrential rain all day on Thursday, it was pretty wet!  But despite grey clouds it didn’t rain on us during the walk. Continue reading

Penzance to Newlyn and Alice in Wonderland at Trengwainton

Wednesday, 12th August 2015

Hello

We went for a stroll around Trengwainton Gardens in Penzance yesterday – Alice in Wonderland was paying a visit too.

It was early when we left home so we stopped off in Penzance and sauntered along the promenade to Newlyn in the sunshine first.

Loe Bar and Chyvarloe

Saturday, 8th August 2015

Hello

After a sluggish start I suddenly found some get up and go and announced a local ramble to Loe Pool.  Mr RR remembered being told about a path to some woods on the far side of the pool where, at dusk, badgers can be seen.  Despite it being 9.30 in the morning we decided to hunt out said woods, so that if we felt so inclined we could go back and spot badgers at nightfall one day! Newlyn to Mousehole and back

Tuesday 4th August 2015

Hello

We took a trip to Mousehole today, to see an exhibition at the Little Picture Gallery which is host to the British Association of Naive Artists.  Mr RR has a couple of pictures there so we went along and saw them in place and met Judy Joel, who is the Director and Secretary and generally overseas everything.  The exhibition runs until the 15th August so you still have time to get yourself there and have wee look.  Then it moves off to Maker Heights in Torpoint from 21st August to 4th September (www.britishnaives.co.uk/exhibitions.html). St Wenn and Withiel

Sunday 2nd August 2015

Hello

I’m a wee bit weary after this one.  This was one long ramble.  It was warm as well.  And we had to fight our way through overgrown paths swiping at nettles and brambles with big sticks.  Well…..to be honest, Mr RR swiped and swung with a big stick, I just wandered along behind clutching a twig and sighing dramatically.

The Order of the Thistle

Thursday 30th July 2015

Hello

Ironically, given that the thistle is the heraldic emblem of Scotland, it’s this plant that entertains  us on our first walk back in Cornwall. Thistles are an important food source for a variety of birds and just now, many are coming to the end of their season and producing those lovely cotton wool covered seed heads.
