Tuesday, 31st March 2015 (Day 2, week 13)
Hello
Did you miss me? You may have noticed there’s been very little walking lately, last week being a wash-out both time and weather wise. No matter – I’m back and hoping to make progress this week.
Here’s a little picture of some chaps just outside of the cottage we stayed in last week, right on the edge of Dartmoor. This was taken during one of the rare rain-free hours!
It’s just a little walk today and a short waffle – hopefully a long walk tomorrow and then I can ramble on!
Enjoy

Target: 1000 miles in one year (average 20 miles a week)
Achieved so far: 254.3 miles (target 260 miles)
Achieved this week: 3.7 miles
Porthleven circular via high Penrose path (3.7 miles)
Not sure why I chose to walk the high path around the estate today – it’s blowing a gale and I’m walking into the wind practically the whole way.
The lake far below me looks blue and calm, lots of white specks to be seen on the surface which I imagine are all gulls.

There’s very little other bird life around though, it’s far too windy. It’s also very smelly – I think the farmer has been muck spreading! It’s a battle to walk up here, struggling against the gale force winds is not much fun. As I near the coast I can see the waters off of Loe Bar looking very choppy….
and as I turn the corner and head along the coast I can hardly stand up. I watch a kestrel frantically trying to hover over the cliff edge before giving up and gliding away inland. The waves are white and frothy down on the shore, crashing against the cliffs as its high tide. Tourists are lining the harbour hoping for some dramatic pictures, but I don’t think the wind is in the right direction for the sea to hit the pier head on.
The boards are in to protect the inner harbour – storms are predicted.
I’ve had enough for today and only want a sit down and a hot chocolate.
